Sometimes in many produktions I can hear that the hall on the snare is in the middle.
Sometimes the whole drumset too.
Do I hear ghosts? :)

Hallo Chef!

I mean what about the Hall on the snare. In many produktions I can hear the hall like mono. Just in the middle. I have the feeling that the snare hall is used insert and not stereo.
by the way do you have a good tip for the gate on the snare?

Thanks

The Mono Verb your hearing in whatever productions you are listening to is mono by choice and not becuse they out the reverb on the snare channel as an insert. Many people (yours truely) choose mono on purpose for many things in a mix. Sometimes not only the verb but all the drums as well, ect. Sometimes havine something in stereo can be too "big/wide" for the part, and detract from the inpact of the part, in it's relationship to the rest of the mix. Say you wnat the gtrs to be "BIG"....well making the drums mono, or the snare reveb mono, leaves space on the left and right, so as not to compete with those gtrs, etc.

As for the GATE question...I'll throw my two cents over there....

Another reason for using mono verbs is to keep the dry/effect balance the same in a variety of playback situations. Many verbs have a huge amount of difference signal (out of phase) in their outputs. If you collapse to mono a lot of the effect can be canceled out. The other side of the coin is in some surround system matrix's playback the snare may be mono in the center front but all of a sudden the reverb is in the rear channels........weird! ........ Fats

Back when surround only ment dobly, the solution for this was/is to tilt in anything panned hardv left and right to bout 90% of full....and/or and around 20ms to noe side.
