Hi!
I have dispute with an engineers in our studio.I'm going to buy Voice master /The old model not PRO/.They told me that this unit is distorting a sound. But I like what I'm hearing!
What you think guys is this model is OK for recording vocals and compressing?
Actually at that price level ;)
Regards!

I think Randy Scruggs might disagree, as he used the Focusrite Mixmaster on the "Will The Circle Be Unbroken III" project...There have been many others using the Voicemaster for well known recordings (Mandy Moore's last project reportedly used one of these on the main vox)...

Well they say/the guys in studio/ that they prefere to use their Midas Venice built -in preamps or some old DBX black series till we found the right profesional preamp. But anyway we think to buy Voice master for our project studio just to have something if we want to catch the moment at home.Who can capture the right mood in studio?
What you say about using voice master for acoustic guitars?

Donny, I too would steer clear of the VM. Mic pres you shoul
Donny,
I too would steer clear of the VM. Mic pres you should consider- RNP ($475), Studio Projects VTB-1 ($179)(has tube stage like VM), or wait for the VTB-2 (bug Alan Hyatt at Designer's Forum for details- tell 'em Doc sentcha). Toft Audio is coming out with a two channel mic pre, Eq, FET condenser called the ATC-2 that I am waiting excitedly for ($999).
I second what your buds are saying- use what you have until the RIGHT thing comes along. You can get better quality for similar bucks. If you want to go real freaky, save up for a Universal Audio 6176 ($2100). That monkey'll make yer knees weak. Doc

Thanx,Doc!
A friend of mine is using UAD products and I know their quality.I will check it.
About VM I think that it will be useful on stage ,as I'm member of the band.I used it to send signal to my Triton singin' tru it's internl efx.Not bad...
May be it will sound funny ,but we checked Behringer valve preamp-it works very well, better than VM.You see that we a seeking gear now at that price.May be after the summer we will go after something very serious!
Cheers!

I have to agree with the engineer. I don't care for these afford
I have to agree with the engineer. I don't care for these affordable units from Focusrite. IMO they are trading on a good name, that was built using Neve designs, on inferior products. If you like it, by all means get it, but if your goal is to purchase a truly quality vocal chain, I would go for the products from FMR the RNP and RNC. Those are the only pieces that I have seen so far that can do this at an affordable price. I will be reviewing a Speck 5.0 mic pre soon. Keep an eye out for that, as it too may be a viable solution. ... Kurt
