Hey everyone,

Im looking to buy a nice Vocal Condensor but I have never bought a nice one before. I was looking at the MXL V6

Has anyone worked with MXL? If anyone has any suggestions on vocal mics for me, please let me know. Im looking to spend around $300-$350 at max. Im only 17 so I'm not looking for anything amazing. Just something that will sound nice because I just came across some money. Thanks ahead of time for any input.

For the $$$$ you say that you can spend, I would say to stay clear of the MXL mics. You can afford a Shure SM27, a Rode NT2000, or an Audio-Technica AT4040. All of these models are built by the company whose name is on them. The MXL line is NOT. It is a "budget" line imported by Yamaha. They look real pretty and seductive, but what is "under the hood" is not nearly the quality of the "name brands". BTW, ADK is another quality mic brand, and while their models in your price range are made in China, they are designed at their offices in Belgium, and their quality and sound belie their Chinese manufacturing.
I have had a couple of MXLs and ended up GIVING them away to an assistant for his home studio because they just couldn't cut it.
ADK Vienna has proven to be much more musical, reliable, and consistent (IMHO).Good luck and MIC ON, BABY!!!

oh my, the mic and the box they sure looks pretty... on the other hand for the money you can get a rode nt2 that has a plastic box that looks like the case of a power drill or jig saw but it sure sounds good... oh wait, I believe I'm thinking of the box of the k2- that looks like a power saw box, you'd never mistake it for a mic box in a million years- the new nt2 might not have a box at all, just a pouch- (not sure, someone chime in) What I know its that it has the same capsule as the k2 for half the price and that's a good thing...

Crappy box = instant theft prevention.

"What the crap is a jig saw doing in this guy's recording studio? Oh my, is that blue velvet and a solid gold grill? Sweet!!"

I should get some worthless pimpin mics with awesome boxes for decoys. You gotta give it to MXL, if I didn't know any better, I'd say from the looks of it that mic is the best sounding mic in the world.
