OK,

I think this should be an easy question for someone.

I am recording with Logic Express 9 and using Massive as my synth.

I am able hear the massive synth and record the sound in a track. If I make a new track with a new Massive synth sound it will record the new sound in the new track but replace the previous sound with the new one. Hope that makes sense.

Also, noticed if I turned of massive then those tracks no longer play any sound at all.

Hope someone can help, thanks

You are creating a second track in addition to your first aren't you?

Your previous track will be written over unless your adding a second track to the mix.

The answer might be.....can you load a second instance of Massive that will output a separate sound?
I'm not sure that you can though.
I'm pretty sure Massive as an instrument track can only output one stereo pair with one sound sample at a time.
I think the only way to do multiple tracks is record them as separate audio tracks....
Have you tried that?

matches...
I don't use Logic Express so it might be different than Cubase but what you want to do is route (or link) the audio outputs of Massive to a new audio track....then playback the MIDI track while recording the audio track...you should turn off the other MIDI track.....then switch to the other track, change to the other Massive sound and do the same thing to a second audio track...be sure to turn off the first tracks
Somebody here who uses Logic Express might be able to tell you exactly how to do that....sorry but I don't know exactly how you accomplish that in Logic...but I think that gets you in the general ball park..

OK,

So in LE9 I make a track, it is using Massive Virtual Channel 1 then I record some sound. Then I create another track and it automatically moves to Massive Virtual Channel 2. Then in Massive I explicitly choose midi 2 and record a different sound. During play back both tracks are playing the current sound selected in Massive. That being said I could now choose a different sound all together and I will now hear that completely new sound in the two tracks....very frustrating. Keep in mind that if I turn Massive off.... good bye sound all together :( Personally I think that is a major clue into what I am doing wrong. I just don't what it is.

Thanks so much for all the input!

Huesph....I believe that's correct...Massive only has a single synth engine with a single L/R output.
So even if you assign a second instance on a second track as an instrument track your stuck with the playback being whatever sound it is set to....
You should be able to route the MIDI playback into a separate audio track and record the MIDI instrument track as an audio track....that's the workaround....the best way would be to record it as an audio track from the beginning...

Well, tell you what guys I have Logic 8 and NI Massive too. I just did a test track and it works just fine with two tracks and multiple sounds.

This must be an issue between Logic 9 and Massive, its certainly not the only plugin not working with Logic 9. Check out all the stuff:

I myself have gotten cold feet about logic 9 and will be waiting to hear about it months down the road, after the issues have been adressed.

I must say that Apple has quite a bit on their plate right now with the release of Snow Leopard this week.

Lets hope they get an update to Logic soon. I will be updating once they have the product working well.

Matches, my pleasure.

I opened a song that I started a couple nights ago. I muted the tracks and created the first instrument track with a bass sound in massive.

I started recording, I played a few notes.

I created a second instrument track with a new sound effect type sound and started recording.

It is working great. However, massive is eating up cpu quite easily.

That's what I thought. I don't believe you can set up Massive to receive input from two separate midi channels using one instance of Massive. You need to set up two instances. Maybe I was reading it wrong but I thought that the OP was trying to set up on instance Massive to receive input from two separate midi channels.
