As always, more info is needed. What is your overall budget? What kind of music are you doing? Is this your stuff or are you building a commercial studio? Basically, digi 001 can be a great home or project studio tool. Most albums done on Protools are done on the full size systems. 001 is a great deal, I use it and love it, and if you consider what you get for the price it is a terrific option for entry level. Competent use of 001 can get quality sound, and the $750 won't kill you. Don't expect to get label size acts in for album projects, though. By the time you are ready to outgrow 001 you will definitely have had your money's worth. Cheers, Doc.

As with any audio system, the add-ons will kill you. That is if you let them. The 001 is a very competent system, but certainly not the only one around. But it does have one advantage. Your sessions would be compatible with the bigger TDM systems, which in the right hands can certainly turn out professional result.

Please remember two things. You get what you pay for (mostly,) so if the 001 could complete major album products, you'd see them everywhere, and we would all be richer for it, excepting Digidesign. That having been said, with care, talent and some discrimination as to what you record on your system, you could certainly begin professional sounding projects, and then for the critical tracks move to a bigger system (read HD or ***.)

Then again, you could luck out and create a multi platinum wonder.

thanks alot for taking the time to reply guys---arter further research i believe were going with cubase vst/32----and motu 2408 mark 3 --PC with duel drives--comments would be awesome--thanks

I think you've made a wise decision. Much better choice and bang for the buck.

The 001 is a great beginner's package to Pro Tools if you want to go that route...700 gets you the card and the software which is nice butyou are truly limited to plug ins and track counts...only 24 tracks available per session(you can do more by bouncing to aux tracks..)also from what I have heard from most 001 users is that the converters sound terrible..most people end up getting a rosetta to go with it to help compensate for the lack of sound on the 001.
Cubase is great...especially Cubase SX!
Also the Motu you can get another interface and put it into the PCI card..this way you can get 72 inputs on one PCI card...altho you have to watch out for what OS and what chipset you are using with Motu...I would possibly look into the RME or Echo cards before going the MOTU route
