Heres a Question?
I have been recently moving toward using more outboard gear when tracking.

Now heres the problem..
I was tracking drums the other day. Im using some gates and compression.
The sounds from the monitors was just as I imagined . Big fat Dynamic sounding( AKA 80's howitzers) then moved to record them into Nuendo..
Whamo Bamo they sound like Ass! very thin and small. Not at all like i was hearing them thru the Monitors.. What am I doing wrong.. seems to me what I hear is what I should get.. Any suggestions?

(NOTE: Admin edit)... changed title from Ahh to this...

Then moved to record them into Nuendo? Not exactly sure what you mean.

From what I gather, you were monitoring everything, and everything sounded sweet. You tried to record it.

Could it be your recording levels are too low, while your monitoring levels were fine? Did you make up gain somewhere? Is the signal split to have separate monitor/record lines?

Basically, how is your system set up, what interface are you using, and what do you mean by "moved to record them"?
Are you using any Nuendo input effects that affect the recording levels/eq/etc.?

Do you have a good sampling/bit rate set for recording? (Probably...just checking).

When inspecting the recorded waveform in an editor, is it at healthy levels, or way low? Are the level meters hovering in a healthy-level range while recording, but too low on playback? Do you have separate line-in monitoring and recorded-signal level adjustments that may be mismatched?

Do you have any channel or output bus effects squashing/thinning an otherwise robust signal, or are you running the outputs through outboard gear to do so?

Check all this stuff, and perhaps, answer a few of the equipment/routing questions, and the answer may appear.

Good luck,

Ok here we go..
Compressors and gates are inserted at the Board( Via Inserts)
(Mackie 1642 VLZ Pro).Interface RME Hammerfall,
Sent into Nuendo 2 different way for recording ,at seperate times.
The first time thru the direct outs for each channel,
The second time thru the Main outs into 2 channels in Nuendo.. I used no compression on the mains
or inputs in Nuendo..

Signal levels in Nuendo were all Approx. -6 at input.
The wave forms were of decent size visually
and were brought up with normalizing..

To answer Moved to record.. = the act of.
as in I recorded the tracks ( sort of a action hero thing there..lol)

I was not running any outboard gear thru the direct outputs or on the main outputs.. So there it is.

You have powered monitors, right?

Kapt.Krunch asked "Did you make up gain somewhere?" I was wondering what the answer to that question would be also.

Have you checked the gain per channel against the PFL button(s)?

I'd like to be able to help more but I'm just not that qualified...and the less I can see the less qualified I am:)
