When I try to get the kick and the clap to work together it just sounds as the clap is placed above the kick..
I want the kick and clap to be like one sound, not two sounds placed above eachother...
On modern dance music songs the kick and clap sounds like one sound..

yeah, what djui5 said... compressing each separately then adjust
yeah, what djui5 said... compressing each separately then adjusting the volumes might be a better choice than compressing them together through one compressor. one compressor would make your kick uneven in volume, since every time the clap comes in, the compressor would be driven harder.
well i think it depends on the type of clap and kick u r using..
well i think it depends on the type of clap and kick u r using...weather the the clap sounds in more mids or the kick has some extra lows... try to add some slight lower mids in the clap if that kick is in low end....and same thing like Djui5 compress them seperately and adjust a good balance...try the resulting sound on consumer monitors also then your studio monitors u will get a better idea that way too...
no problem P2h...i m just learning like every one...and wish to

One thing to try might be lowering the volume of the clap a lot.
One thing to try might be lowering the volume of the clap a lot. I make trance, and simply adjusting the volume has helped me. Basically you just don't want to hear the clap as a separate sound, so if you make it quiet enough, it will be heard, but not draw attention to itself.
Good luck,
