ok, upon doing some research I'm keen to get some good quality reference monitors... so I truely hear my mix... I work at a radio station we use yorkshire? anyone heard of these? they are hot mointors... anyway

my thinking is Maudio BX8's, KRK RP8's, Event ALP5 or Alesis M1's.
those are about in my price range.

I run a m audio 410 firewire interface and have an intel iMac ..

can anyone give opinions, a heads up on the above monitors maybe even some other siuggestions?> I doing audio imaging work and recording acoustic and vocal..

What you get depends on your price range and your ear.
The cheeper she is, the more make-up she will require to look good.

Now, Thank you bwmac for those stats!
I since found a few other charts like that which demo'd the same monitors.

My next big struggle is actually hearing these monitors, obvioulsy hearing before buying is the right thing to do.

I've heard berhringer truths, not that stoked.
I've heard bx 5's not that stoked.

would like to hear
RP8's
Yamaha MPS10's
Mackies
JBl's
Event

but noone in my town has these speakers on display.... they're like oh we maybe able to get some down... but didn't seem commited to that. pain.

any suggestions?? aside from waiving the bundle of cash infront of these chaps to make em act?

If you want my opinion there may be a lot of disagreement because I don't go for the big name stuff.

You see---- each studio and engineer should be, different, or it should be personal. I am not trying to compete with the best, I am trying to be the best that I can be with the ears that God gave to me.
Did I mention that I am a mechanic and that I do show some high Hz hearing lose.

OK enough preaching.

I will suggest this pair of monitors but let me make it clear that I am not promoting them and that I am not affiliated with Recording.org and my suggestion should not reflect upon them.

I am saving up for these Rubicon 6a Active Ribbon Studio Monitors
spec. them out and see what you think.

Thanks Brad, I appreciate this!

I want to be able to make an informed choice and I 100% agree i comes down to each individual engineer and what they hear... I am enquiring to see what brands people trust and use!

I'll check out the rubicon's!

Meanwhile I'm still looking closer to home,
RemyRad I have the correct name of the monitors our studio's use at work they are Yorkville. they do sound nice.

Yorkville's aren't expensive. I used to sell them, and they ARE decent at their price point. If you like them and are used to them, certainly consider them. I'm not sure where you are in Alberta, but you can check out the Yorkvilles and most of the other brands of monitors you mentioned at Long & McQuade in Edmonton or Calgary.
