It depends.

First, Monster isn't all marketing hype. In fact, there's quite a bit of sanity and reasoning to their design (specifically the time coherent windings.)

As far as Mogami, yes, it's a quality cable. Is either cable worth the price they command....Idunno.....Hell, I have a pair of MIT cables that cost a little over $1500 a pair - I think they're worth it and the Mogami and Monster stuff is 1/20th the price.

Other good cables....Belden and Canare - both fine cables and both (as well as Mogami) can be purchased in bulk and rolled on yer own.

I wouldn't say that MIT is the BEST. They're good for some things. Unfortunately, they're quite expensive, but they are nice.

As for a comparison between Mogami and Monster...that's tough. First, bear in mind, the 100 series of Monster isn't really anything useful. Only the 500 or 1000 series are actually worth anything. Other than that, both cables produce a noiseless signal with great dynamic range and fullness.

With either cable, you'd likely be quite satisfied.

perhaps what he's trying to allude to is the point of dimminishing returns.... ie: 2x's $=110% 4X's$=115% so often it comes down to is it worth it for you??? YMMV

Don't know...never tried one.

I used to be a big Mogami fan when digital was a lot worse than it is now. The Mogami was kinda dull and dark, and it took the edge off of early digital. But now digital is better and Mogami mic cable is still dull and dark.

My best microphone, an ADK A52 (which is probably under the acceptance level of anyone else on this site) is unusable with Mogami. The Mogami gives it a coffee-can resonance and an overall vinegary sort of sound.

I hate to say this, but after listening to a bunch of mic cables, I found that the Belden stuff labelled "Accusonic +2" sounded the best on this mic. I know that nobody at Whirlwind has any interest in sound quality (they're local), but somehow this cable neatly removed every problem with the ADK mic.

Incidentally, if you need a really clean, clear single-conductor (guitar) cable, listen to CBI Artist Instrument.

All these comments apply to what the companies were stamping their names on when I heard them. Maybe the companies change whenever they find something cheaper. Who knows.
