I am in the process of upgrading my home studio from a "jam" setup to being able to record on a computer. I got all the parts in the mail and got it so that the keyboard, base, and guitars are working get but the mic is killing me. Here is what I am using.
Mic: MXL 992
Preamp: Tube MP Project Series
Amp: Behringer Ultraacoustic ACX1000
Interface: M-Audio MIDISport 1x1
MIDI: Yamaha PSR-275
Computer: AMD 3.0Ghz Quad-Core, 4GB RAM
Sound Card: Realtek ALC888 (onboard)
OS: Windowns XP sp3
Program Cakewalk Sonar 8.5
I have this setup...
Mic OUT to Preamp IN
Preamp OUT to Mic IN (front plug on amp)
This is were I am stuck...I can not even get any sound from the mic to come from the amp. So to test this I used the old mic (Carvin CM 68) and it works great. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Does the amps' XLR mic input have a "phantom power" switch on it? That mic needs phantom power.

My preamp has Phantom +48v that is on. The amp has a thing that says "+48v" I assume that is the phantom power. I have tested it with this...
Preamp OFF - Amp OFF
Preamp ON - Amp OFF
Preamp OFF - Amp ON
Preamp ON - Amp ON

Try the mic into the amp without using the preamp. The phantom power on the amp will have to be on.

I tried that and got some out of the mic but even working with the settings it sounds like the person is on the inside of a box and really quite.

I played with the Pad and it does not help. I should not be the Amp because I used the same setup but with the old dynamic mic and it worked great.
