the synth probable has a LINE level output... and that is significantly more gain that a high-z or "instrument" level that a guitar amp likes to see.
if your guitar amp has a pre-amp bypass, allowing it to serve as a power amp only, that shouldn't be a problem.
This usually means the amp has a separate "line in" input jack as opposed to the guitar input.
pluggin into the guitar in with a line level could easily spike'n'blow the preamp circuit.
Also, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, so don't trust me on this one...but if your amp has an effects loop, you COULD almost use the FX return as a line level in, and then your wet/dry mix (or on Marshall's I believe it's called "Amount") becomes a volume knob, essentially.
