There was some hype a while back about using an NS-10m speaker as a bass drum mike, was that a fad or are people still using it?

Of course, it's terribly easy to turn ANY speaker into a microphone. If you happen to have an extra speaker hanging around (and who doesn't....) give it a go. It works quite well for loud sources (kick drum, bass amp, guitar amp) and not so well for quieter sources (think EXTREMELY low sensitivity...)

i recently purchased the Yamaha Sub Kick...and its great man..not sure if it was a fad or not..but i use it and LOVE IT....its gives the mixing engineer a colorful palette of sound...sometimes we use it..sometimes we dont..but when we do!!
it fills in GREAT!!!
