Here too. People are stripping new house's, cutting it up in small pieces and hawking it. Crack heads are everywhere.

Same here. It's gotten to the point where the rippers are taking it out of older houses that are occupied - they wait for the homeowners to go to work, on vacation, etc., they get in there and strip it out, sometimes in less than an hour.

The local junkyards are now requiring two forms of valid ID in order to cash in copper.

I think I'm safe... 95% of the plumbing in my house is CPVC. ;)
