I'll start by making the assumption that there are a few people here who use a DAW in conjunction with a large mixer (16-8 or bigger). How have you configured your physical setup to make it work while recording/mixing? Have you made some piece of specialized furniture? Trackball on/under the mixer surface?
I have an A&H GS3 with two monitors at the back end of the mixer. My monitor speakers next to the monitors. My computer keyboard is located under the mixer in a drawer (not smart), and the mouse to the right of the mixer. I feel quite a bit of pain in my right shoulder after my 22-hour recording weekends and have to find a good solution. I can't be the only one with this problem and if I am, I'd appreciate any advice. The one thing I feel I could manage without (i.e. I could have by the side) is the computer keyboard. And yes I need to take longer breaks while recording and mixing...
Do any of you use a trackball, how does it compare to a mouse in the long run? Can I have a mouse and a trackball connected at the same time?

I use rack mountable mixers but I also have a wireless keyboard with a built in mouse type deal. It also allows you to have a regular mouse hooked up as well. It is infared so the range is "line of site" but it allows me to kick back in my chair while tracking. The mouse on the keyboard is less user friendly but usable. It's more usefull while tracking when you use it less. I have started using more keyboard shopt cuts as well.

I attached a slide out keyboard and mouse tray under the desk that my 32/8 bus mixer sits on. This works fine for me and you are correct, regular breaks are absolutely essential!!
