i keep getting this error message, since i have to pick the Direct X drive in order to hear any midi sounds, including dfh(drum kit from hell vst) but in result i keep getting this error message and i cant play audio files, on the other hand i could select the ASIO multimedia driver in my VST multitrack choice list to hear the audio input drive but that causes me to lose the midi sounds.

i want to be able to make midi and record the guitar at the same time so any help would be grateful

What audio interface are you using?
What MIDI interface are you using, or are you only using it internally?
What version of Nuendo are you using?
Where did you get Nuendo from?
How much did you pay for it?

Always use ASIO if you can...if your audio interface supports it. What you want to do should be easy.

Instead of trying to get this to work you really should get a new dedicated audio/MIDI interface. Onboard sound chips are really the absolute worst things to use for any sort of audio production.
Also, that Soundmax audio device doesn't have ASIO drivers. So if you want to use ASIO, you will need to download a set of ASIO driver that would work with that card. Something like ASIO4ALL should work.

Anyway, I don't have Cubase in front of me. I'll have to check it out and get back to you on this.
