recording in acid pro 4

I assume you have loaded a loop by double clicking on it in explorer,it should now appear as a track up in the main edit window, simply move your cursor over the blank part of the screen then hold down the left mouse button and drag from left to right, the loop should now show up as a waveform in the edit window. It is simply a matter of drawing out your arrangement of beats.Have a look at the default song that comes with acid4,it will give you an idea of how an arrangement looks in acid4. For recording audio it is simply a matter of pressing the red button(just like the old days of tape machines),the record window appears, check the record mode is set for audio not midi.Type in a name for the track,I always do this or you will soon have a hard disk full of tracks called "recording take 75432" etc...Now I suggest you select a folder to record into otherwise it will put files into a default folder.O.K we are now ready to set the level of signal from your mixer or microphone.I have over the years found that a good overall level should sit up in the top of the green with spikes or peaks going into the yellow,NEVER get into the red you will get clipping, the digital recording format does not like overloaded signal ,unlike tape which actually gets a nice compression when overloaded. So now we are happy with our levels simply press start and away you go,press stop when finished and presto you have a recording. Good luck and if you want to know the secrets of great sounding recording in ACID PRO 4.0 I will soon be selling a book of the secrets I have discovered in over 15 years in the music industry as a musician & audio engineer. enquire via drumster71@hotmail.com. Good luck.

WHEN YOU SAID ALL OF THIS, YOU HONESTLY LOST ME. HONESTLY, WHEN I SAY THAT I'M A BEGINNER, I'M A BEGINNER. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A LOOP IS.. PLUS, I DIDN'T DOUBLE CLICK ANYTHING IN IE, AND I'M NOT TRYNA MAKE A BEAT. I SIMPLY WANNA LOAD AN INSTRAMENTAL, WHICH I ALREADY HAVE AS A FILE, AND RECORD MY VOICE OVER THE BEAT, THAT'S IT.. IS IT EASIER IN COOL EDIT, COZ THAT SOUND DIFFICULT, YOU LOST ME AFTER THAT FIRST COUPLE OF SENTENCES.

- A loop is a piece of audio that repeats over and over.
- You can drag and drop any audio file (mp3 or wav) from windows explorer into acid.
- Just press record, it is located in the middle of the screen, just next to the "bpm", and there you go...as easy as that. Acid automatically will create an audio track where your voice will be recorded.

Btw, if after you drag and drop the file in Acid nothing appears, just move the "pencil" tool, doing a drag and drop movement, so you can "draw" the mp3 or wav you just dropped from windows explorer.

This is extremley frustrating because i do exactly what you guys say, and to no progress.. exactly what i did..

1. I put a file into Acid

2. The Beatmapper popped up, so i just kept pressing next until it was finished..

3. it was loaded, So i pressed record, it gave me an option to start, so i pressed start..

4. no music played for me to rap over, i heard nothing at all..

5. after that's done, i pressed play, but no music still was heard.. yet, my voice can be heard when ever i do this..

ALL I WANT TO KNOW, IS HOW DO I HEAR THE MUSIC AND RAP OVER IT, SO IT CAN RECORD ME RAPPING OVER THE BEAT.. DO YOU GUYS FULLY UNDERSTAND WHERE IT'S NOT WORKING FOR ME? I'M DESPERATLEY, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

You could start by telling us...

- What sound card you are using.
- Is it full duplex ? (old sound cards are not full duplex and won't allow you to record and playback at the same time.)
- If you go to optionspreferencesaudio...what's showing up in there ? sound mapper ? or the brand of your soundcard ?
