Hi,
Well, we are father and son and we'd love to be able to record ourself ( saxophone, guitar, bass ) and to also be able to record a more Hard rock kind of Music. We've discovered the Zoom Mr8 and we wanted to know if it is a good choice. We are not professionals but we'd like to be able to record mix master an entire album. We already have a Bass amplifier, few jacks, a fine computer... but that's about it... What are all the important "must have" tools to be able to do our thing with a Budget of 1000 - 2000 $. Thanks a lot, it is a really important project for us.

bob and paul,

welcome to recording! :) i've never used the fostex, so maybe someone else could comment on that.

i do have a few questions for you two that might help you think more about what how you want to record and work on the mix...

-how many instruments would you need to record at the same time?

-what sort of computer do you have? what are the specs?

-do you have any mics or di boxes?

-have you thought about buying pro tools from digidesign?

we can help you out a lot more once we know how you two are used to working together and how confident you are on computers.

In my opinion software recording is the cheapest way to go and best for begginers. Some musicians prefere using software instead of buying equipment because it's cheaper and easier to use, however for productions you need some type of equipment.
