It was certainly designed to be used with a mixer. A mixer that will provide a means to set up a monitor mix of the tracks after/as you are recording to them. A mixer that has mic preamps that you can assign to the different tracks as you record to them. A mixer that will permit you to mix the recorded tracks down to a stereo composite that you can burn to a CD or other medium.
