U47 all day long

you can even put it in front of the kick
and it looks cooler

I would concur on the fet47, but it is a matter of taste. The 87 is an excellent mic as well. David

I'd vote for the 47 as well. I'd find a lot more uses for it on a day to day basis than an 87, I think. Of course; you could get a mic that's as good or better for a LOT less. If you're looking for the "client magnet" effect, go with the Neumann's if you can swing it; but they're not required to make a fabulous recording.

Hi i think you described it the best by "client magnet effect" ,i want to buy this mic from a person that sounds like a really reliable one, that have the mic for lots of years now and usin' it in his home studio , the man say its mint and as good as the day it left the company,
the problem is i don't have any way to chek it before i'm buyin' it , and i really can't make up my mind about it , however , the options for other mics on the same budget more or less will be the u87 or the new Neumanns (147,149)which i've heard some really wierd strange story's about them and their reliabuility ,my first choice will be a soundelux (e47 ,e251) but they are out of my budget for now, so as the brauner vm-1, would you buy the u47fet ? what would you do ?

A mint U47fet would be a great mic to have in your collection as they are sort of rare and you sure don't always have the ability to find one in that condition. That would make it a higher priority to buy to me than another mic that is new. I would try to see if I could make the deal with a money back option so that if I was not happy or in case the mic turned out to not be as described. How well do you know and trust this guy? That is the biggest thing to consider.

Because as I said, A mint U47fet would be a great mic to have in your collection as they are sort of rare and you sure don't always have the ability to find one in that condition. I could always buy any new mic down the road. I would much rather have an original U47fet that is mint than one of the newer U47fet clone mics that try to replicate that mic providing the price was justified.

My usual signal chain for vocals is a custom slass a version of a neve 1081 to a 1176 improved version f to a single ended tube pultec eqp1a , i have no other flagship mics in my mic cabinet , i'm usualy using a tlm103414tl-2 for this aplication , in this case would you recomend on the u47fet ?

Yes to all of the above. It may not be the best mic for that persons vocals or may not be the mic that gets used, but it would be one of the mics I would likely throw up along with others and I would then judge which was best from there. I think it would complement very well your TLM103 and 414 and work well with your 1081 and 1176. You can't go and expect that any mic is always going to be the best or the right mic in any application. You can use a mic in the same way on the same source hundreds of times with great or perfect results, and then there can times when it won't be and you'll find that it will be best to use something else.

I like the 47 waaaaaay better than an 87. just my subjective opinion tho.

I sorta feel the other way, that the 87 sounds harsh. Maybe in the days of tape an 87's characteristics worked with the analog circuitry to produce a pleasant sound; but I'm not hearing it now in digital. It's not that I hate it, but every time I put one up in a shoot-out, I end up picking something else.
