If you look at (which you probably have) their individual prices on those items you'll see what pieces are deeply discounted, the 16 track and the MXL mic.
Some new multitracks with more and better features have been hitting the market lately and really pushing the prices down on the older ones.
Like dementedchord said, you might consider the computer route, but stand-alones do satisfy a certain nich. In which case check around as to what else is out there.
With those package deals you wind up getting stuff you really wouldn't have bought. And don't save that much money to boot. Check out the new Zoom 16hd, it's a standalone put can also be used with a computer, and I think even comes with software and it ain't that expensive. then put the other money towards a better mic.

while everything is there to get you going you have to wonder why they are discounting it 63%???? you obviously have access to a computer... why aren't you going that route??? one of the stories that came out of the last namm show was that some of the manufactures are getting out of the selfcontained systems... IIRC tascam and roland in particular... anyhow stick around i'm sure there'll be other opinions...
