2 acoustic guitar recordings
Ive decided to combine two acoustic recording this time, the first recording I consider pretty dark acoustically, I think I mic'ed it too close to the sound hole.Slight fret buzz at :43 sec.Due to the tape hiss I will guess this was recorded on reel-to-reel tape. The sound over all should be very delicate and pretty much dead center.Guitar is just slightly out of tune.In the second song, the balance is better but it still is a bit chesty sounding, its also a different guitar.Im guessing this was direct to hard drive. The sound abruptly stops because the phone rang and i didnt want that on the recording.like the first, the image should be centered. As with all my binaural recordings, there is no compression or audio processing of any kind.Enjoy!

After stating all the problems of your recordings, was there any question ?
And oh ! You guess ?? You did the recording yourself right ??

PS. You cannot expect studio guys to enjoy a flawed recording. Post your best recording and then maybe... ;)

Yeah, I'm a bit confused too... you mentioned "due to tape hiss... I guess this was recorded on reel to reel.."
Uhm...okay... if you recorded this yourself, why would you guess?

What exactly are you asking us to do here? Are you looking for someone to tell you how great this is, while knowing yourself that it's filled with problems?
If you yourself picked up on all these problems/issues, why would you expect a forum filled with professional engineers, acousticians, musicians and producers to give you a thumbs up?

I'm not trying to be a dick here... I'm very serious.

>"Guitar is just slightly out of tune."

No.. it's very out of tune... and besides, it doesn't matter if it's slightly out of tune or completely wacked. Out of tune is out of tune. There are no "degrees" of bad tuning. The instrument is either in tune... or it's not. Yours is not.

And this is one of the major reasons that will cause most professional people to quickly hit the stop button (unless it's punk or something avant garde') - be they engineers, producers, record label reps - most will stop listening the second they hear an out of tune instrument, especially if it's the primary instrument.

>"In the second song ,the balance is better but it still is a bit chesty sounding,
its also a different guitar. Im guessing this was direct to hard drive.

Once again, you're "guessing"? Did you record this track or not? If you did you must certainly know which format you recorded it to...

If you know you've got a problem with a "chesty" sounding guitar track, you can help to fix this through EQ or through mic - instrument relationship in the placement. Keep in mind that your room will also play a major factor, especially if you are relying on it to lend to the complete sound of the song.

>"The sound abruptly stops because the phone rang and i didnt want that on the recording."

Again, your post is confusing. If you are the performer and the engineer, then re-track it and do it right as opposed to keeping a take that is obviously flawed by bad tuning, bad EQ, and bad phones ringing.

Don't present this piece until you can do so without making excuses first. You should always put your best foot forward. The only reason to post other than that would be because you want help, input, advice, etc. on a particular problem that you are facing, but perhaps haven't figured out how to correct on your own.

Some things that would be helpful:
What mics did you use?
What preamp?
How are the acoustic of your room?
What is your room size? Dimensions?
Is there any acoustic treatment - absorbers, traps, diffusers - in place?
What was your positioning for both performance and capture?

You've prefaced this post with a list of problems you are already aware of, as well as bragging that "As with all my binaural recordings, there is no compression or audio processing of any kind.Enjoy!..."

See, the problem here, is that you shouldn't be bragging about not using these things while at the same time presenting a recording that has so many problems. What difference does it make how much or how little processing you used if the track just sounds bad all the way around? o_O

FWIW

I add one more goodie to what pcrecord said.

To the OPP or anyone for that matter. If you can make an mp3 sound good, then you've got something going. :)
If I have to hear something full bandwidth to tell whether or not its mixed well, its already fuck ed.
I love music via mp3 just as much as I do full bandwidth.

And, I have made mp3's that don't have the irritating zzz in it. I mean, I hear the compression but I still hear my good work behind it all.

If you like your daw mp3 bouncing , Samplitude / Sequoia 12 mp3 compression is awesome btw. I love it, try it.

just saying...

I was going to suggest that HiFi John might not be a native English speaker -- and the "I guess" part was was him trying to say "I think it's (this way) because I recorded it (through this method)".... that it was just awkward sentence construction....but now I don't know. Could still be the case -- and maybe for the same reason HiFi John doesn't understand the true nature of this forum - that he just didn't fully understand where he was posting because he wasn't native to English and was having comprehension issues.

John -- you might be better off sharing your music on Reddit, in the /r/WeAreTheMusicMakers/ subreddit. It's probably a better place for you to share given what you've posted here - it's more about high fives and less about getting professional level opinions.

Good luck
