I have to say, I'm loving American Idle this year. Steven Tyler sets a new bar. Right On Steven!
I love live shows that help our industry! This is a very positive "beautiful" thing.

Casey, very cool twist. I loved your whole new approach in music. Got to love that Stand Up Bass! Looking forward to hearing your career develop.

Who do you think is going to be the winner this year?

Haley, wow, beautiful with balls, you got to love that. She definitely Rocks.
Lauren, seems to have it all covered and only 16 years old. I think its a toss up between the top two final girls in this one.
Scotty, he's cool but to predictable IMO and a bit too country for an idle. Who knows though, maybe country is coming back to get the votes.

Promising career ahead for all these gifted people.

I think Lauren has it this year.

It's an interesting array of talent this year. Jimmy Iovine, Ms Lopez, and Steven Tyler have been a breath of fresh air too.

But I have to say, I was disgusted to see some of the professional acts come in and use Autotune in their live performances. If you're to be a mentor to contestants in (what claims to be) a singing competition, and you can't sing a song without Autotune - get off the stage! My 2¢

I hear you.
But I have a different view on autotune if used tastefully rather than actual "tuning" a bad singer.
Do I like it? Maybe. I like it if used as an effect in a quick moment but I'm really sick of all the Rap etc that is autotune throughout. Its so overdone I can hardly believe anyone with pride would still be doing this. I guess it sells but it doesn't fool the folks with a good ear.

I find Steven Tyler extremely entertaining but, as a judge and mentor who's supposed to provide constructive criticism, his SNR is pretty low.

Also, is it just me, or have they been way harder on Haley compared to the other contestants? My personal favorite in the top-3 is Haley, but I'd imagine the other 2 have better prospects for selling records & downloads, so the conspiracy theorist in me suspects the Idol "machine" is doing what it can to get one of those 2 to win.

Lastly... Seeing as we're on a recording forum... What have you thought of the live mixes? There have been lots of complaints that they just have not been able to get the mixes right, with the vocals either WAY too upfront, or getting buried by "bandzilla". I wonder if it matters if you're listening in 2-channel or 5-channel audio? (I've been watching it mostly in 2ch since that's what I've got for the TV in the living room).

This late in the competition they're all excellent singers in their own right. What this really is at this point is a popularity contest. As the only remaining young dude, Scotty will get 100% of the remaining teenage girl vote. (which I figure to be a large demographic of the most active voters)

The whole thing is the perfect microcosm of the music business:

Be yourself, but do these songs you're uncomfortable doing
Be original, but sound like something we know how to label
That was great, but you gotta show us another side of you (one week later) You gotta get back to that thing we loved about you

The best line of the show was when Scotty kissed his cross after his encounter with Lady Gaga and said, "Lord, this is not my doin"
He really is the only one that has remained himself throughout. Every song he does sounds like him. He bores the hell out of me but he is very clear and good. If voice cuts though wonderfully. Perfect spin material for the next Garth Brooks.

I hope Haley wins.

Well said Dave. I can't imagine the pressure of having to do all these things for stardom. There is nothing more humiliating than having to impress people sitting in front of you, especially when you aren't in your comfort zone.

Nope. Not Lauren. It's gonna be Howdy Doodie.....I mean, Scotty. Not because he's a better singer but because he has the young girls vote. The judges all now these two shouldn't be there. Casey should have been but he's not cute enough to get the vote. The bottom line is that kids don't vote with their ears. They vote with their eyes. Pia should have one but she's too old. It's still a farce.

Good call Hue, American Idle it is and he definitely had all the girls voting.

I don't believe it is a farce, its just not where our heads are at. Its stimulating the music industry and anything that does it like this, is a very good thing. We have to remember that this is American Idle. Its supposed to be for the youth. The voting crowd is also the crowd that buys records.

Years ago I took all sorts of static from my friends because I played pop music. They wondered why I wasn't playing the harder core stuff and I said because there is no money in it. I don't want to be a broke and bitter musician who never got out of my basement. My entire music career has been playing pop music. I love being around it and I love the whole thing that it brings to the table. I have friend who are musician and they can't play pop music because its way over their heads. They are always making everything way to complicated and when it comes to keeping it simple, they can't keep it together. They are wannabees that never got out of the basement. That's how I see it.

My favourite was Haley but I knew she wouldn't win. The show is about votes. It tells me more than its just a farce. It tells us where the money is. They were all so excellent too.
I think this was one of the best seasons yet. I loved it and I can't wait for the next season to start.
