I'm planning to skip the proprietary Digidesign I/Os and go in for Apogee or PrismSound.

I figured that I need max. about 16 channels of AD. but for monitoring I may need only two channels of DA or may even stick to the DA of the Yamaha DM 2000.

However, I'm confused on how to get digital outs from Pro Tools to my mixer. The Apogee AD-16X has an HD card to connect directly to PT, but what do I use to get the signal on the board?

Will I need to incorporate something like the Dream ADA-8 or Rosetta 800 with HD card connectivity? But then I'll be limited to getting only 8 channels digital through one of those units. (I'd like to do most of my mixing using hardware and have ruled out a control surface).

Please help!

well, in the meanwhile i've been trying to scratch my head and i think i've come out with some kind of a workable solution..

though here, i figured i had to go in for one of the PT I/Os and that too the 192, because it has the digital I/Os in AES/EBU besides the ADAT optical, which will limit me to 48k sampling.

with this i have only one stage of AD, 2 v.good quality signal channels with the avalons and prisms, 8 channels of decent pre and AD, plus 24 ins from the board that can be grouped to 6 and recorded. also, i have 16 returns coming on the board, which will be 96k.

are there any loop holes in this one?
or
any suggestions on this one? -- will be much appreciated.
