Feel free to post your own examples of songs/bands/artists who had great musicianship...and great sonics/mix examples are welcome, too.

Here's a fave of mine, from the Fall of '77.
Smoke From A Distant Fire, by The Sanford-Townsend Band ( TSTB). I loved this track the first time I heard it.

Classic Blue-Eyed Soul ( the first time I heard it on the radio I thought the band was black); with great musicians, great pocket and groove, a well-written song with a really strong hook...

(unfortunately, TSTB was a one-hit wonder band).

Here's the studio version:

But ... TSTB could pull it off live, too... here's the band playing the song live on the old Midnight Special TV show - members here of my generation will remember this TV show, which aired late on Friday nights, immediately after Johnny Carson.
MS was a cool show, where artists and bands played their hits live. There was no Milli Vanilli lip-sync crap on Midnight Special ... ;)

yeas ago I saw Kansas, Our city was at the time their only Canadian stop , had free tickets from the radio station ...
I was a pretty competent guitarist back then and appreciated seeing some really talented musicians...

I was totally blown away by the violin player , he was technically amazing ... then he switched to guitar ... and he was even better on Guitar ...

I was emotionally distraught, put my guitar in the closet and did not play for a month ... ( true story)

cheers

How about that indeed! She goes in and out of falsetto so effortlessly.

You know, when I read this thread and I was trying to think of artists....Adele never even came to my mind. And I think, she is my generation's Bob Dylan. She is one of the few people in today's music scene who is truly gifted imo. And not just pumping out pop garbage.

Again, this may not be people's lane, but imo, also one of the best to ever do it. Micheal is just amazing.

Does anyone know which brother that is with the falsetto at 2:26? Or how he got a hold of audiokid 's official mixing outfit?
