Anyone used this or would have any idea on how good a studio monitor stand it would make?

I use those stands. They're OK. Those "boltheads" are not boltheads. They are the optional silicon adhesive buds you can stick on the surface. There is also a foam pad to stick on there, so you have a choice. I used the foam.
As far as size is concerned: mine carry two Audix HRM2 monitors. The plate is 9"sq, sturdy enough not to bend (also because of the 90º angled front and back). The HRM2 are w19" x h12" x d9.75" and quite heavy for passive speakers.
What monitors will you place on there? Quicklok rates the weight capacity of these at 125lb - 57kg. If you take that with a grain of salt and half those numbers it would still be able to carry most nearfields.
Of course you have to be careful, because it is not as stable as e.g. the BS336. Organize your studio so that people cannot walk by close to the stands.

Stand looks sturdy enough. I have to wonder about those boltheads sticking out the top, though. Do they come with pads? Even without the boltheads sticking out, I'd probably put a rubber pad on top (for a bit of isolation and to keep the speakers from skittering about). Are those boltheads going to be a problem? Or, are those actually padded for isolation? Can't tell. I'd check. If they are metal boltheads sticking out, and they aren't padded...why in the world would someone design something like that? I'd also wonder about the strength of the plate. If it gets bent, you'd have yourself a rockin' little speaker stand...and not in a good way! Are your speakers large enough to cover the entire thing? If they are too small, they may rest on two corner boltheads and the center, and be tipsy. Are they too large? You also don't want much of the speaker
hanging over the edges.
