and for motherboards, look for one that works with the processor obviously, but i don't have any specific recommendations. just make sure they look good (feature wise). I'd look for 4 memory slots (so you can upgrade), a few PCI and maybe one or two PCIe slots, and a good video card if you don't plan on buying a seperate one. asus are good motherboards though.

Budgetwise there is no reason not to go dualcore for a DAW PC, Intel or AMD. Intel's Core2Duo is an impressive performer, but prolly a bit more expensive than AMD's AM2 X2.

Forget SLI or Crossfire boards: too much stuff that has nothing to do with a DAW and a hefty price. I think you'll be looking for a Platinum version of the nForce 500 boards.

The rest is up to features like FW400/800, eSATA, number of SATA ports, number of PCI/PCI-E slots. You decide.
