Hey everyone!

I've tracked a number of VOs for a class (which sadly lacks the scope of getting to instruments) and some bits and pieces of music, but I am tracking two full songs for the first time this weekend and I would like to hear any tips, tricks, or lessons learned. I'm totally fine with making mistakes and learning from them, but I'd like to be aware of some cautions too!

For specifics, the group is a "Southern/Metal/Hardcore" band in the vein of Underoath and Maylene & the Sons of Disaster with:

2 Guitars
Drums
Keys
Bass
Vocals (screaming)

I'm running Pro Tools LE with a 002 and have access to:

SM57 x 1
Beta 52 x 1
Audix D-series drum mics
Audix i5 x 2
AKG Perception 200 x 1
Sennheiser e606 x 1

I am just trying to be as ready as possible before I start tracking so any advice either specific or broad is welcome. Thanks!

The 002 has 4 built-in pre's with 4 more line inputs. For drums, I am actually running some channels from a mixing board in a church building. The board has a pre switch, but I'm not sure how it works it. I have gone in there and tested it all though and got a full 8 channels out of the 002 for drums.

It's a small demo. Only 2 songs. I have at least 8 hours this weekend and am planning 1 more 8 hour day. No hard deadline, tho. Lucky me!

Glyn Johns the drums (4 mics) or recorderman (2-4mics)

I'll be doing everything individually. Thanks for the glyn johns and recorderman mention. I hadn't heard of them.

These are certainly two names you should research for their opinions on all things recording.

As a newbie wanting to learn something that will last you an entire career, this is as good a place as any to start the learning process.

Google glyn johns recording methods....recorderman recording methods or smilar wording. Sit down and soak it in.

The recorderman methods were put forth on this forum as well as others.
