I have a finalizer 96k (which from what I read has really good converters) and a L2 maximizer hardware version. It will be at the end of my Alan smart c2 compressor,Avalon 2055,and TUBE-TECH LCA 2b mastering chain. Are these conveters up to the level of the gear or do I need s stand alone like an Apogeesomething or other. Would I even be able to tell the difference? I don't want all this great gear compromised at the end of the chain bit at the same time, I don't want to spend if not necessary unless it would make a difference.
thanks

I agree with Link555. I'll add that before spending big money on gear like this, I would suggest you get a hold of one or more units (mabe even rent some) and come to your own conclusions if it is indeed worth it to you. It is not what you read about it, it is about what you hear or don't hear.
Keep in mind that the Finalizer and L2 are capable of doing far more damage to music than can be helped by using great converters.

Thanks alot for the input fellas. I just purchased a apogee Rosetta 200 on ebay. I just felt the other equipment I have warranted it plu I figured converters have improved a bit since the finalizer and l2. The apogee will be going to my Tascam DV-100 HD as my master recorder.

For what it's worth, I actually think the converters in the L2 are far better than the apogees. (Bear in mind, I think any difference in conversion is subtle at best).
I'll also agree that these boxes (including the Finalizer....neigh...especially the finalizer) are far more likely to cause damage than to help. However, if used correctly, the L2 is a VERY powerful tool.
I use mine (the MAXXBCL) as my last device in the chain and set the max gain at -.3 dB and 0 make-up gain. Any gain I wish to make up I do so prior to the L2 with my analog chain. This has a tendency to keep the sound much fuller without the potential for seriously squashing the hell out of the mix.
Cheers.

But the L2 is decent too. The TC finalizer I think is the weaker of the two but still above average.
I tried a wack of ADC and DACs before I settled on my cranesong. But with gear at this level, your not always sure why you like something better, you just do.
