End of the line indeed. Thanks Tom for all the fine musical moments past, present, and future......You are already missed.

One of my favorites of all time. Not a lot of rockers who can create a varied body of music as he and his cohorts, and remain fairly relevant for nearly 40 years, not having to rely exclusively on 20-35 year old material to play live. No matter which style he explored (playful, rockier, more acoustic, ballady), it always was unmistakenly "Tom Petty". Even within the "super-talent stew" of the Wilburys, I can tell which part is Petty.
One of the few DVDs I can watch over again, his "Runnin' Down A Dream" rockumentary is about the best produced, informative and entertaining I have ever seen.
Many great memories to many great Tom Petty songs. R.I.P., Tom Petty.
Better yet...rock on in the great beyond, Tom!

He was legit. A true artist. A great writer and performer. He didn't rely on image, flash, or the other shallow facets that so many others do. He lived in LA, but was as "un-LA" as they come. The music mattered. Occasionally he reinvented himself over the years, but at his foundation he was always Tom Petty. No bullshit. Great music. Great concerts, great recordings. He was like a rock wall in that regard ... you could always count on him to be himself, and that rock solid stature held through 4 decades of constant musical change, of changes in the business, changes in the culture. Yet he was always there and could be relied upon to deliver what we wanted him to.
RIP Good Sir. There aren't many left like you now. You will be missed.

I know this is part of getting older (when your heroes start dying of age related causes) but I don't know how many of these I can take.
