I'm starting to look into 5.1 production. I was just wondering if any of you guys have checked into monitoring systems for 5.1.

5 speakers + sub, plus bass management. Best recommendations?

genelecs and dynaudios... very nice for sure.

what about Bass Management though?

You'd need a summing device to manage the sum of the bass frequencies from the 5 surround channels along with the Bass effects channel to the sub, then have high pass crossover sending the surround data to the 5 channels...

anyone see something particular like this out there.

Ghetto surround:

- I bought 2 more sets of my current studio speakers and a sub.
- I run a Bass management VST plugin as my last step in Nuendo.

I have the 1031 Genelecs and the sub. You should check Audient, they have serious analog bass management units. You will probably need their ASP 510 surround management unit too. I have one and it's great.
I would not rely on plug ins... unless you can't afford the big toys.
Keep in mind that you will need to tweak your system constantly, check levels, isolate or mute one speaker from the others and checking the resulting mix in stereo and mono.... Hardware makes sense...

sserendipity... lol right on. that sounds like my kind of setup. What VST are you running?

tomtom... thanks for the hardware suggestion. I'll check out Audient. Those units sound great.
