Does that count in crossing comp platforms? That is, if I use ProTools on Windows XP (whgich, granted, I probably won't, but *if*), can the files work on either platform, whether it's ProTools on Windows or Mac?

there's a check box in the dialog box when you setup a new session that reads "make this session cross compatible". Don't use SDII files (always use BWF or AIFF) and you'll be alright.

although it's platform independant i had alot of trouble with pc sessions....

I haven't seen that statement but I doubt it's true.

In general PT runs better on Macs and Cubase runs better on PC. There are exceptions but generally this is the case. PT was written with the MAC in mind from the begining. Steinberg has always slanted their products toward PC. True cross platform is not as easy as it sounds. There are always compromises and so software companies must design with an eye toward one, no matter what they tell you.

There are 2 approaches you can take.

1. Choose your software and the platform will choose itself. or

2. Choose a platform that you are comfortable with and then pick software that performs well on that platform.

Actually if you go to the DUC (PT user forums) the athlon systems are outperforming the macs (ptle) and in some cases are approaching PT HD1 performance.
I wouldn't say either runs better. The mac guys have their share of problems too in PT land.
Now, when it comes to support and new feature/software developement, YES then it becomes very clear that PT is designed for the mac.

Dual G5 is overkill for PTLE because it doesn't take advantage of the second processor.

You would basically get about the same performance with an iMac G5.

With other apps Like Logic Pro DP4, the second processor makes a big difference.
