I heard the Rokit 5's at GC and thought they had a high roll off that would be very troublesome. However I heard through forums and reviews that the Rubicons have a low roll off thats annoying.
The music i'm mixing is folky/indie stuff. Mostly acoustic guitars, drums, bass, electric guitar, synth, various percussion.
Budget is 300 max. rubicon or rokit or new suggestion please

No offense but you can't get blood from a stone. At $300 for a pair, you're going to get what you pay for. The KRK's are pretty flat. There's not much better you can get at that price. The Rubicons get some praise as well. Yamaha's HS 50 and HS 80 are nice. A friend of mine has a set of HS 50s and they sound quite decent.

For me the bottom line is that at that price point, and probably even higher, any set of monitors you buy is going to do something signficant to the sound you hear. It doesn't matter that much what it does. What matters is that you learn HOW your monitors colour the sound and factor that into your mixing. My fairly cheap monitors don't reproduce the lows that well, so in the beginning I would pump up those frequencies until things sounded balanced. And as soon as I played the mix on a decent stereo system, what do you know, way too much bass. Now I pump them up somewhat until things sound more or less balanced just for mixing purposes so I can hear how things interact, but I've learned to drop them back by about 3-4dB once I've finished. When I play it on a decent stereo, it's more or less right where I want it. After about 3 or 4 more rounds of back and forth between the car, the iPod and the living room stereo of course!
Sure, I lust after a pair of high end monitors, but they probably suffer from a similar problem, maybe a different frequency or frequencies, maybe to a lesser degree, but lord only knows how much money you have to spend to get truly transparent monitoring.

I'm a big fan of my Rubicon 5s; I liked the way they sounded over the KRK Rokit 5s. You should listen to them both in an A/B situation. The Yamaha HS 50 are good as well, so don't forget to add those in.
If bass is a concern to you, the Rokit 5s may be your best choice; they give me the impression of monitors that fans of Sony MDR headphones would like best. (As I write that, I'm not sure what I mean, but all of these decisions can come down to personal taste).
Remember that the room acoustics will play a big part in how any monitor sounds.
