Hi,
I've posted this question elsewhere and gotten no answers, though I think it must be pretty basic. I'd just google it, but the search terms never come up with the things I am trying to learn.
I'm pretty new to recording, and some MIDI and VSTi stuff seems to be going over my head. I have a VSTi drum machine (the Audiorealism DM), and while I can have figured out how to program beats, I don't know how to get it to record onto Cubase (LE4 mac).
It has options for routing the different instruments (eg. BD to track 1, SD to track 2, etc), but I don't understand where "track 1" and "track 2" actually go. When I set routing, I just don't hear anything. How do I get that sound to go into tracks on cubase? And will a drum machine like this record as MIDI data that I can move around or as a .wav file or something else?
Any help would really be appreciated.

I actually did read the manual. It pretty much leads you how to make tracks using HalionONE, using an external controller. But thanks for the information. I still don't totally understand. To access the drum machine, I create a VSTi track, which I use to program the drums. But the drums don't show up as midi data, since I'm just looking at a step sequencer. How do I get the information on the step sequencer onto a track?
Sorry for the denseness. This stuff doesn't come naturally to me, and I'd way rather just record real drums, but apartment living sucks.

READ THE MANUAL.
VSTis generate midi data. They should get recorded into the track which you insert it as an.......insert. Go through the getting started manual for Cubase LE. That should get you through recording midi step by step.
