i'm sharing my recording technique for reharsals

i'm in a band and we are 6 guys

vocal

guitar/backing vocals

guitar

bass

keyboards

drums



we have a Behringer 1802 mixer

we connect a Shure sm 58 about 2 feets in front of the drums

guitars go direct line out from amps, like the keys! one guitar is panned almost hard left and the other almost hard right... the keys go half to the left cause the right guitar is the lead!

vocals center and backing vocals at 11 o'clock

bass amp doesn't have a line out so we put a Shure sm 57 in 1 inch of it...



the results are just fabulous! great sound and we can all understand our songs!

How can you possibly make that comment without hearing the recording? After all it's a rehearsal recording, not a record. It may be fine for it's purpose. Let's extend each other the benefit of the doubt and a little common courtesy..

Well I didn't mean it to be mean. But when you tell everyone that your sharing your "great recording technique" it better be a good one. Not some some ametuear direct stuff.



But if all you need it for is a practice reference, and you can hear everything, then I guess it's a good technique.

Now that's what you want from a rehearsal recording.

Many bands are happy with a dictaphone in the corner of a room and a good imagination...



Been doing something similar with an 8-track portastudio at band practice. Not for public consumption, but priceless for keeping tabs on the status of the songs and the band.

I agree, all you stuck engineers that make fun of people that dont have the money to buy the best equipment on the market. I am 19 and record out of my house and dont have the best equipment and i have compared my recordings to studios in my local area and mine are just as good if not better. I have been seriously recording for about 2 months and i am getting very good results from helpful people from this forum NOT from people who like to cut down people that arent as advanced as them, is the point of this site is for everyone to learn something
