Have you checked Dirk Brauner's website? I don't have the specific address handy, but his site has some really good info on how to properly maintain and store various mics, and it certainly isn't limited to their models...

Thanks for that Moonbaby. I didn't know that was on the Brauner site, so the info is much appreciated. I should really keep away from there, because the temptation to buy a Brauner is so strong :wink:

I've paid between $75/mic upward to $200/mic over the past few years fixing some KM-184's (once) and some old C414's (twice).

I will see if I can find that website address for you later today. I got it from the ProSound Web last month. I do remember that a tech from Brauner was ranting about the open-cell foam in mic cases causing problems with LD condensers, and all sorts of fixes.
You might try SPAudio in California. Stephen Paul (now deceased, but his company lives on) was a mic guru in the Hollywood area, and his staff repaired and hot-rodded Neumann, AKG, and Telefunky's...their phone# 818-905-9952...Stephen Paul Audio.

I didn't realise that there had been more posts to this thread (isn't there supposed to be an orange thingy beside the thread name?).

I've seen that Audio Upgrades have mods for so many mics. I'd be curious about the mods for the AKG C34 and U87. I wonder how good these very cheap mods are.

I only found out that Stephen Paul was dead a few days ago when someone mentioned that he had a capsule mod for the C34. I haven't received my C34 yet, but I'd like it to be more sensitive and have lower noise. Even though it has small diaphragms, some of my favourite pop vocal recordings from the 70s were done on this mic -how could I resist!
