Can anyone shoot me an idea for a simple pro-tools setup at home. I dont need keyboards, just want a simple setup for dropping vocals over beats already broken down and sequenced onto CD.

OK, so get yourself an external, modestly priced, microphone preamplifier. A simple program equalizer and a compressor/limiter like a DBX. Now you have yourself a nice vocal microphone chain. Patch that into your line input. Now you're cooking with gas! It's simple and will sound better than the direct microphone inputs and plug-ins.
