Either it's because you need to better train your ears or your listening environment is tricking you. A good thing to do is to listen to some commercial well mastered songs before and while you are mixing your stuff. Before you get use to it, you may use a spectrum analyse on the main buss to check if some frequencies are getting out of hand.
