in all the stuff you've posted recently, the mids are just excruciating. it hurts to listen.

it's either your mics, monitors or the space you are mixing in or you have a hearing loss in the 2k to 6k range.

ok and you would say that problem spreads across every instrument?

I'm with Kurt on this. Either it's because you need to better train your ears or your listening environment is tricking you.
A good thing to do is to listen to some commercial well mastered songs before and while you are mixing your stuff.
Before you get use to it, you may use a spectrum analyse on the main buss to check if some frequencies are getting out of hand.
