With every multi-track program I've used, when I play along with the first track, to record the second, the second track seems to be recorded at a slower speed. At least that's what it sounds like. So, when I plat the mix back, the tracks are out of time. Any suggestions?
btw - I'm currently using Steinberg Nuendo v1.52, and Acid Pro v3.0

ok, I'm running Windows XP, on a P2 clocked to 373mhz, 192mbs of ram, and a SB Live Platinum 5.1. I also have an 80 gig HD dedicated only to recording. I Know it's not the greatest set up for this, but I'm low on cash, and have to make do with what I have. I don't need to record 40 tracks at once (yet), I only need to record 2. As far as syncing, It's all internal, but I'm not sure it's set right.

Sorry, looks like the ball got dropped here. I don't know what you consider cheap, but here goes - If you're still looking, you might consider either the Echo MIA or M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 or the Delta 410 - $180 to $200. For $230, you get 4 in and 4 out at 24/96 with the Delta 44. Any of these cards will behave in a system and can be later moved to a faster one if necessary. Here is a link to the PCI soundcard section of Audiomidi.com - they have pretty reasonable prices.

Your machine should be able to record/play at least 16 tracks in almost any software you throw at it. I have one older DAW that is a P-2 450 with 256 MB ram and older drives than yours, and it does 36 tracks of 32 bit 44k audio as long as I keep away from DSP/EQ, etc.

You don't give any particulars of the PC system itself - Do you have more than one soundcard? if so, are they all synced to the same word clock? Are you syncing to an external source during record, but internal during play? Tracks recorded with one soundcard using its own internal clock will play back at a different speed when using another card, or when syncing the same card to different sources. Then again, maybe what you're hearing is latency. If everything is behind, the track would sound slower -
Post more info, hopefully we can track it down... Steve
