I need to find a decent studio vocal mic with switchable polar pattern and roll off for under $600.00 USD.I have looked at the Cad range, the RODE range and Audio-Technica but I am a bit dubious about all of them. Can anyonbe help me find a little pot of gold?

Divo,

The audiotechnica stuff is excellent. Absolutely clear and clean, with a great sound. You could just go and buy any of their large diaphragm models and I promise you'll be thrilled. Or see if your local dealer will let you take a few different mikes to try, with the understanding that you'll keep only one and return the rest. That's what I did - the audiotechnica 4033 beat all others hands down, including an AKG 414 [for my cello, anyway] so that's the one I kept. This was several years ago, and now the 4033 is pretty much all I use for everything.

I second what Ethan says about the ATM 4033 however it does not have switchable patterns. I have had a pair of 4033's for 7 or 8 years now and they are great mics. Divo, you don't need to be concerned about buying ATM products. They are very well built and the company is very reputable and provides excellent customer service. The AT 4050 has switchable omnii, figure 8 and cardioid patterns and a 12dB hpf at 80 Hz. $500 with a shock mount. Kurt

Did some quick research Kurt,

"Congratulations! You have just received the guaranteed lowest price for
the AUD AT4050 SM from ...

Item Number: AUD AT4050 SM
Description: Audio-Technica AT4050 Studio Mic with AT8449 Shock Mount

Our Price: $479.97"

Not a bad price for a great mic (if anybody wants to find this price check the big online retailers, it's one of them).
