liquid.... SHARCs... we all know what happens in jaws.... dun duh dun duh dun duh dun duh du da daaah (screams, drowning, scared faces, frustration, lost money, ect..)

seriously though, "every micpre and compressor ever in history"... yet they only allow 99 memory slots. if it's really 'ground breaking', then I suppose people will buy it to end up doing just that.

I agree with you all that high end hardware is unbeatable, but come on.. open a Pt/logic sessions and evaluate for yourself. CB2, Sony-Oxf, MGW, Altiverb, etc etc

I do not earn any money to say this, but there are a few nice, serious developers out there doing very nice job: Mc DSP, PSP, GM, etc etc

There are some clever ways to get the responses of certain analog pieces into a waveform using convolutions...I get a lot of mileage from blending in a Manley Passive sample (from NoiseVault, I think) with my original signal...

Be that as it may, I really wish marketing departments would not use phrases such as "every micpre and compressor ever in history," "now you can have a JCM, Twin, AC30, and JC120 in one box." While some of these things may be usable, they don't sound like the originals except at a very superficial way...its this kind of hype that makes me doubt everything I hear (read?)...

Ahh, a clean house is a happy house. Now play nice with each other kids .... :D Keep on the topic and avoid comments of the personal nature.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and should be able to share it with others as long as it's not a personal insult. Let's not carry past grudges from other conversations over to this one.

I think modeling sucks, and Fukusrite seems to be a company that in spite of it's pedigree of quality, more and more is trading in rack junk, capitalizing on its past acolades. Disscuss.

I agree! The trend towards a "magic box" approach is just a symptom of the real problem, which is, greedy manufacturers who want to expand their customer base by encouraging "no talents". The talent in a box movement is such a load. I don't know where to start.

I'll just say, learn to play and sing. Learn about arranging. Get good gear. Learn to use it.

or,

be pretty, learn to dance and look good on the tee vee.. suck off anyone who can help your "career".

Oh I am afraid that quality musicianship, songs, recordings is a thing of the past. I'm glad I'm old! I'm gonna die soon and I won't have to see what it all becomes..

i have lost the numbers of times I have received visits of potential artists that are prepared to bea success. In 1996, a very beautiful woman, with a reasonable cash paid for everything, arangements, recording, etc etc. Everything 90% ready to release.. excpet she could not sing in tune for over 8 measures...

"hey, don´t ya use Autotune, Beat detective, soundreplace"?

Not all modeling sucks. The UAD stuff is usable (please don't comment on this unless you've had 1st hand experience) Conjecture does no one any good. Focusrite just put out the 428 and I have yet to hear from a dissatisfied customer for that pre.

I haven't had an opprotunity to hear the UAD cards so I really can't make an intellegent comment. I don't need them 'cause I have all the outboard from my studio still. LA4s, EL OP, 1178 DBX and Valley People. But as for the modeling devices I have heard, Line 6, PODs etc, it's all a bunch of bogus bs. It gets sorta, kinda close, in a way, but no cigar. I see no reason that an inexpensive mic pre modeler would be any different.

The whole mic pre modeler thing would make more sense to me if they came with a calibrated mic or if they were designed to be used with one type of mic like a 57 or a U87 but since they don't and any mic can be used with them, how can they possibly be accurate? Will this thing sound the same regardless of what kind of mic is used with it? I'd have to hear it first to believe it.

Yeah the UAD cards and UA TDMplug-insare very workable, most likely cause they spend lots of time getting great emulations of gear, I deffinatly agree with Kurt, from Ampfarm to PODS these modelers suck, they sound simalar to the real thing but no luck. Same thing I can say about the bombfactory emulations, I've used real moogerfogger pedals, they sound simalar to the software emulations but they aren't as fat as the originals. LA-2A's and 1176 act similar but really muddy. Good emulations are hard to make, the liquid channel looks like lots of hype, but I'll still like to see what it can do.
