I'm in dire need of pres and been killing my self trying to decide on what to buy.
I was looking at another brand until I found a few Sebatron s on Ebay. They are priced a bit cheaper than on the Sebatron site which has dropped them right into my price range.
Since they are cheaper, I was a bit wary. The seller says they are new but I wanted to check here to see if anyone might know about this and to find out whether or not it's on the up and up.
It looks good to me.

I'm gonna buy a Seb too (but I'm lucky enough to be in Australia.. it's not often that we get gear cheaper here than you guys in the US of A!) so I just thought I'd jump in on what Kurt said about the 4000e..
I read somewhere in my many readings on the VMP (I think it may have even been on the Seb site or in one of the manuals) that the 4000e, and to some extent the 2000e, don't perform _quite_ as well as the single channel 1000e because each channel can't quite get the same voltage as the single channel in the 1000e.
Could anyone comment on the audible difference? I'm not a sucker for stats and specs. If someone with a good pair of ears (or even better, Seb himself) tells me I won't hear the difference then that's good enough for me.
By the way pr0gr4m, Seb might correct me here but I'm pretty sure that the VUs only monitor output anyway.. I'd say you're basically paying to make it look prettier ;-)

Second, Sebatron says "in theory" a single channel vmp will "spec out" a bit better than it's multi channel counterparts but that it is doubtful anyone can really hear the difference. I have a 4000e and all I can say is "How much better could it really be?

Precisely. Since I don't have a 72 input SSL to impress the clients, I need all the LED and VU meters I can get. The old oscilliscope just ain't cutting it these days. :wink:
I guess if I get the one without the VU's I could use the blank space for notes and stuff. :?

I've got lots of pre options so I'll be getting the 2000e though.
As far as the VU meter goes.. impress your clients with your SOUND man!

I predict Sebatron will be getting some high profile exposure in late June, early July 2005. After the word gets out, the prices very well may inflate a bit as demand increases. l ... Get the Seb 4000e ... you won't regret it.

I figured out that its way more important to listen,than to look at youre sound!
If you can find a 2000e/ with no meters/for a good price-----------------buy it!-------------it will make a $79.99 mic sound like a $179.99 mic.
I was lucky to find mine at the price i got it for----------When I opened up the hood of the Seb to replace the tubes (that really didnt need to be replaced)I was REALLY impressed with the craftsmanship of the unit,Im not a wizard at electronics,but I wasnt born blind either----its really good gear.
Ive learned that with proper mic placement,and at least a half fast mic------you dont need to eq in the mix..as much..----------on the other hand-------------------if you use a $$$good mic--------eq,ing is "not at all" an issue.
As Kurt advised me as to the meter situation--- after I purchased my Seb,use the meters after the preamp :ie: comp,board,recorder to see youre db,s.
Just go for it dude!!!!----and while youre at it--------get the Thorax!!!! :lol:
