Hi guys, I'm a newbie to the forums and also to sound recording/engineering. Basically, I'm looking to start building up some equipment now to eventually after university start a studio (4 and a half years approx). The two options to study in uni atm are law or digital recording (or something with a similar title, it's basically just recording with pro tools etc).
At the moment I've just got a family pc, but it's good like, but I'd probably need to install a lot.
If anyone could help me with pricing and recommendations then that'd be great

Current budget-£30 a week (around $45)
Looking to record vocals, electric guitars, bass guitars and drums (then maybe the occasional acoustic guitar and piano)
VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio (WAVE) is what appears to be my sound card
I'm gonna need mikes, software, and all the other hardware (eg mixing desk etc)...and some books about using the software cause I have no clue about it

If anyone can offer me any help or advice then that'd be wicked, and if there's anything I've missed out please tell me
Cheers
Matt

First off, I recommend you study law ...

Where do you want to go with this studio you will start in 4 years? Do you want to become a professional studio, with clients? Or do you want a personal production facility?

Once you get this studio, will you be attempting to emulate other popular recordings that you hear on the MTV / VH1 / radio, or will you be doing demos of songs that do not need to sound as great as a "real record"?

We need to know these things before begining to consider what to recommend to you ...

Well, I'd like to be able to emulate pro records, but I realise it'll be much more to get a professional mastering device...............thingy
But I would like to get it as pro as I can, I mean if I'm studying law when I've done my course I'll be earning when I do my training contract etc, so I'll say emulate the popular records
Thanks Kurt
