I am looking at the Tascam 2488 and the Fostex VF160EX. Can anyone give me advice to help me make the decision? It is to record some music that my brother's punk rock band plays.
The Fostex is a pretty nice machine. I had a chance to goof around with one that belongs to a friend ... it has some nice effects ... the eq is a bit weird... the low shelf is fixed at 400hz and cannot be moved .. that's pretty strange ... only has 8 virtual tracks and is a 16 bit machine @ 16 tracks.
The Tascam is 24 bit, has more tracks and more bells and whistles ... also is a newer product .. I have been eyeing it with interest. I think I would go with the Tascam givin the choice ... It is pretty hard to go wrong with Tascam gear (for what it is) .....
