Hi!
I have a question:
I have this Mackie SR24.4 that I use in my project studio. I like it for all my hardware synths and DAW-outs. but I need better pre's for recording with mics.
So I'm thinking about getting the FMR-RNP or the Summit Audio 2BA-221. They both seems like a good choice for under 600 USD.
Now here's my problem...when I record now, I use the built-in phantom-power supply on my Mackie to feed the mic, but these pre's have no phantom-power for the mic.
Is there any way that I can use just the power from my mixer and feed the mic?
Is it an easy thing to build a kind of split box that can do the trick?
I don't really want to buy a separate power supply.
I hope you understand what I mean.
I'd be very glad for some help and info on this subject.

I must have been tired when I read the spec's. :s:
But I find it very hard to decide wich one I should get. But I guess that FMR is the way to go.. lower price and 2 ch.
I can buy it in the States for 475 USD at Bayview Pro Audio.
And that's a good price compared to what I have to pay for it here in Sweden.
Is there any other places that you would recommend for "web-shopping" ?

Tore,
FMR can be bought direct from the company. I can't see it being any cheaper anywhere else..
While I was at the FMR site, I noticed they make reference to the "buzz" here at RO regarding their products so I used the opportunity to hit them up again in regards to a RNC and a couple of RNCs to review and use in the mic comparisons.. I hope to get an affirmative answer from them. Kurt

I haven't listen to your test since those pre's are too expensive for me. But if you include FMR and Mackie too, than it would be something for me.
If they let you keep the FMR, then I can buy it from you. :D
Well I'm going to mail FMR with some questions about shipping cost and tax... and Power supply.
Just to be sure that it won't be to expensive to ship it.

Tore,
That is what I have been wanting to do. I keep asking for a couple pres from SP as well. I want to place tham all side by side and record the same pieces of music through them, with the same mic, or perhaps a couple of different mics like a U87Ai and a C451 and a SM57, acoustic guitar, bass, vocal, kick drum and snare.. with a Mackie pre as the "reference" since it seems this is the pre most have actually heard.. and then let the listener make the desision.. Problem solved! I actually have a hard time imagining any modern pre that wouldn't have phantom.
