I know quite a bit of info has been spread about these in RO, but what I'm interested in is if anyone has heard or used both. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to Averville's but I need that "neve" sound. I already have an 8 ch. M80 (PreSonus) and a 4ch. M1(Hardy) but I need something with more aggresiveness, especially for vocals. I know the best route is to actually here them myself but there is no possiblility of that here in deeeeep south Texas. Thanks in advance for all of the input.

abraham, I have been recommending the Dan Alexander pre lately
abraham,
I have been recommending the Dan Alexander pre lately but I have learned that this too, is a 2 stage design, as is the Averill. I may be wrong in this assumption but I think the Vintech is a true 3 stage pre. IMO this would make it truer to the original Neve sound. I have used the 1272 pres before and was left unsatisfied. I found them to be relativly neutral. I'm not tech oriented but it seems that 3 stages makes a bit of a difference in the aggressiveness of the sound. The most aggressive pre I have heard is the API. You might consider them if that's what you are looking for. Here is a link
