Hi All,
As I make the transition from live audio to DAW I am curious if anyone could recommend a compressor that works similar to a Drawmer? I've been using the included compressors in Ableton and they seem to do a lot of changes to the audio before I see the meters working, whereas the meters on the drawmer dl441 seems to correspond closely with its activity. I was originally looking at getting into the universal audio cards but then decided to upgrade my cpu instead so am know looking at vst compressors. Seems like there are way too many different compressor plugins available out there, any suggestions free or otherwise?
Thank you,

Whats your budget?
My favorite compressor plugs at the moment are:
Stillwell's Rocket: http://www.stillwellaudio.com/?page_id=68
Voxengo Marquis: http://www.voxengo.com/product/marquiscomp/
Kjaerhus, all the gold series stuff: http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/gold-series.php
Also check out Audio Damage Rough Rider (free): http://www.audiodamage.com/downloads/product.php?pid=ADF002
And Bootsie's Density (also free): link removed
Some of that stuff is pc only. What platform are you using?

My favourite compressor is the Sonalksis SV315 mkII for across the board tracking to mastering. In fact, the Sonalksis Essentials mkII bundle is one awesome package as the SV517 mkII EQ is lush too and the SV 719 gate is very useful also. Although 600 dollars for the bundle is high, these plugins are quality and compare well to Sonnox and (are better than) Waves. The Sonalksis crew are ex Neve employees, so know a thing or two about signal design. If you qualify for educational status, they are currently offering a cool 50% off, so 300 bucks for that bundle is mint.
Others I like are : PSP Mastercomp, Voxengo Marquis, Fabfilter Pro-C among many choices.

I have the Waves Musicians Bundle II with the Renaissance Compressor and Renaissance Vox (which is a vocal compressor).

They sound really good and the bundle is very cheap for what you get. You will need an iLok, though.
