Hi. I am wondering what this is, and if it is really necessary for doing audio on W2k? Does it cause problems, or maybe it's unnecessary but not problematic? Can it be disabled?

The reason I wonder is that whenever I look at the Event Viewer (System Log) there are always messages about errors with Dcom trying to open up a server. This even occurs if Dcom is not enabled to run on the computer. Disabling it seems to have no effect on operation, either good or bad.

(If I open up dcomcfg.exe, I get a panel that says DCOM allows applications on my computer to send and receive instructions from applications on other computers. I can't see that this is necessary for a standalone daw, but by default W2k is configured so that all kinds of things can use dcom).

Anybody have comments about this? thanks
