ok i bought a m-audio interface

and i have a mxl 990 mic hook up to it

i'm new to all this recording thing.

how do i get it to record on my computer?

is there only certain programs that it will work with?
or do i have to change the settings?

i have cool edit pro and thats what i been using.
since its pretty user friendly.

i dont see anything on/off buttons on the mics soo i dont think its that.
and my computer detects it. and i get sound out of the interface from the headphone output.

You need to "arm" a track.

You need to start a new recording track.

This is what you do:

Start a new track using File>New and select the properties you want for your new track.

Goto Options>Device Properties and select the M-Audio device in both the Wave In and Wave Out tabs.

Select record and adjust the M-Audio gain controls to get a respectable amplitude for the waveform on the screen.

Perform your piece.

File>Save and give directory and file name.

Burn file to CD.

Send copies to all the major labels.
