I'm using dvd studio pro to author dvd's. I get almost no DVD-A requests. just DVD-V stuff. I have a few clients that do 5.1 and I use AC3 encoding for these. To me, DTS sounds better but is not supported like AC3. I've done several DVD's that use both AC3 and DTS tracks as well as stereo. When using AC3, I don't hear much of a difference between 48k and 96k source. I normally work with 24 bit 48k files. but by far, I get stereo material. If it's stereo only, I use 16/48k. If you have multiple audio tracks, you have to bump down the video bit rate and that is pretty apparent. 5.1 music stuff didn't quite catch on like what I would have hoped.

I haven't really looked into many software apps for DVD-A. Just not getting any requests for DVD-A. But Discwelder seems like a reasonable piece of software.

The only problem with DVD studio pro is you need about 4 grand in other software to make everything look nice. If you want to do a quickie, then the app can stand on it's own. But if you want to do something cool and unique, then you'll need lots of other apps. I think it's a full time job just keeping all the software up to date and making sure everything is working anytime you update software or add software. Not to mention the time it takes to check the calibration of the 5.1.The amount of time and money to keep the whole DVD machine running up to the newest features and glitch free requires a lot of projects to make it worth it. Right now I'm riding on the crack or it not being worth it.
